Name – Aprihop
Country – United States
Type – American IPA
Appearance – Poured a clear, deep red color with a finger wide white head that did stick around a bit.
Smell – The nose is nice with citrus hops, a nice malt backing and of course apricots.
Taste – Citrus hops with a bit of pine to it. Nice caramel malt backing mixes with the apricots for a slightly sweet finish.
This is my first time having this one. A lot of people have said that this year’s version is hoppier than previous incarnations. Since I never had any of those I am starting fresh. I don’t feel it is overly hopped. Actually I think it’s just right. It is very well balanced with the malts and apricot flavors in there. Very enjoyable.
Overall Grade – B+

Hey Mike.
I agree, it is not overly hopped–it’s really quite good. It’s just that compared to last year, the balance is right on target. I really enjoyed this one and appreciate that a great brewery like DFH adjusted to criticism.
April 7, 2010 at 8:36 amYa know I still haven’t had this beer. Been meaning to try it for years and I just keep forgetting to buy it… Need to find some.
April 7, 2010 at 8:55 amI agree with rob, I had it on draft Monday night at Coffee District and in comparison to previous years I think the balance is there. The hops balance out the Apricot flavor. Good Beer, BETTER than last year!
April 7, 2010 at 11:07 amThe first time I had this I didn’t like it. but upon revisiting it, I found it enjoyable. i bought some 2010 but haven’t gotten around to trying it.
April 8, 2010 at 9:43 amMike, I’d say your take is very similar to my own. I’ve only had this year’s batch of Aprihop, but I thought it was a great beer. (that’s saying a lot from someone wo was IPA-phobic!) I’m going to try keeping a few around for the summer.
April 8, 2010 at 10:22 pmI can’t wait for Festina Peache in the summer! I’ve gotten so into sour beers and Berliner Weisses that I have to finally get that one.
