Left Hand Oktoberfest

Name – Left Hand Oktoberfest
Country – United States
Type – Marzen

Appearance – Poured a clear amber color with a slightly off white head that was gone quickly.

Smell – Mild amount of malts and grains that were somewhat sweet in smell.

Taste – Pretty much the same with the smell.  It was rather subdued.  Some bread like qualities to it as well.

If there is one thing I love about the fall it is having some good Oktoberfest marzens.  I did quite a number of them last year and will try again this year.  This was my first of the season you could say.  While it has the normal characteristics of a marzen I can’t help but feel it fell a little flat.  Not as bold of a taste as other ones I have had.  But it’s not terrible in the slightest.  I could still go through a number of these with some brats or schnitzel.

Overall Grade – C

Haven’t started on my Oktoberfest kick yet… I couldn’t do it in August, just didn’t seem right. Now that it is Sept and cooling down at night, Oktoberfest here I come!

I had some Spaten Oktoberfest in August, it’s my favorite marzen, but now is getting closer to the time. Also we don’t cool down that much here, haha.

Yeah, you don’t really get that Fall thing sown there like we do in Jersey!

I had this one last week. Yes, I jumped the gun on Oktoberfest…I’m a heretic, but I love Oktoberfest and fall. But it has been dipping down to 50’s upper 40’2 at night. Anyway, I didn’t like it…but then again, I don’t like much of Left hands lower ABV beer. I am overtly critical of most domestic Marzens. I had Clipper City’s version last night, on the suggestion of a friend, and it was actually pretty good, but not very authentic.

Looking back, I’d say my favorite marzen was the Paulaner Oktoberfest. Really good stuff there. (Review link in name)
