Name – Shipyard XXXX IPA (Pugsley’s Signature Series)
Country – United States
Type – American Double IPA
Appearance – Poured a pretty clear amber with with a big slightly off white head that laced the glass a good amount.
Smell – Citrus and pine hop notes. It says on the bottle it uses Cascade hops and I’ve been seeing lately that these are being used a lot. A mild malt backing to it.
Taste – Pretty standard with the big grapefruit like hop taste and a little bit of malts in the back.
A few other beer bloggers have mentioned how Cascade hops are overused in beers lately. I never really knew exactly what the taste and smell quality of Cascade hops were up until this clearly stated it’s use and recognized the smell and taste. I agree that they seem to be overused but I do like them. I just love that grapefruit flavor. But this one just doesn’t stand out all that much to others that seem to have the same type of hops.
Overall Grade – C
