    HopDevil

    Name – HopDevil
    Country – United States
    Type – American IPA

Appearance – Poured a clear darker red color with a good sized white head that laced the glass quite a bit.

Smell – Floral hops and some spices.  There is a bit of a malty smell to it as well.

Taste – Great balance of floral hops and sweet, caramel like malts.

The third of my initial pick up of Victory brews is HopDevil.  I went with this over the Hop Wallop at first to get an idea of what the normal IPA is like before going to the DIPA.  This was a really well balanced IPA with good hops and a very nice malt backing to it.  I know some people don’t like IPAs that the malts take a back seat in so this one should make those people happy.  So after three of Victory’s fine brews I can say I am definitely a fan and look forward to having more in the future.  Maybe even visit the brewery when I am visiting in PA in December.

    Storm King Stout

    Name – Storm King Stout
    Country – United States
    Type – Russian Imperial Stout

Appearance – Pours a solid black color with a large brown head.

Smell – Roasted malts with hints of coffee and chocolate.  Slight hoppy presence along with a bit of the alcohol.

Taste – Met upfront with a mixture of roasted malts and piney hops.  The hops stick around through out most of the taste and some chocolate and slight alcohol burn at the end.

This is my second of three Victory reviews going up in a row.  This one took me by a bit of a surprise.  Ed Roberts told me that it has a big hoppy presence for a typical imperial stout and he was right.  I don’t think I’ve really noticed many that do have that in them.  The bitterness stuck around through most of the tasting but mixed very well with the malts.  I am quickly becoming a fan of Victory.

    Prima Pils

    Name – Prima Pils
    Country – United States
    Type – German Pilsner

Appearance – Poured a clear bubbly golden color with a big bubbly white head.

Smell – Woah, there are hops here!  You hear that everyone?  There are hops in a pilsner!  They are combined with a grainy and malty smell as well.

Taste – Earthy hops, grains, bread like malt backing, some spices.  Very crisp and clean.

This was my first taste of Victory since they just arrived down here in South Florida from Downingtown, PA, just a mere hour from where I grew up.  And all I can really say about Prima Pils is this is a pilsner, plain and simple.  It has full flavor and smell unlike your macro pils.  Very refreshing and easy to drink without having to be watered down.  Hands down the best pilsner I’ve ever had.
