    Coney Island Lager

    Name – Coney Island Lager
    Country – United States
    Type – American Amber Lager

Appearance – Pours a pretty clear reddish color with a good sized white head that was gone rather quick but left some good lacing on the glass.

Smell – Smells were pretty subdued but could get some malt and spices.

Taste – Crisp and clean grainy and malt taste.  Slight hops and spices going on.

I thought this was a pretty well balanced all around lager.  I think it’s perfect for sitting and watching the ball games this fall (Go Phillies).  More taste than you get from a lot of lagers out there sets this one above most.

    Harpoon IPA

    Name – Harpoon IPA
    Country – United States
    Type – American IPA

Appearance – Poured a clear almost amber color with a good sized white head that left a good amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell – Some citrus and grassy hops up front but nothing over board.

Taste – The hops come out first followed by a sweet malty flavor to finish.  Finishes very good.  Very well blended.

This is a pretty good, no scratch that, a very good example of a well balanced IPA.  The hops and malts are there.  Neither over powers the other and neither is just plain over powering at all.  Glad I decided to get a sixer of this from the grocery store.

    Stone Sublimely Self-Rightous Ale

Name – Stone Sublimely Self-Rightous Ale
    Country – United States
    Type – American Strong Ale

Appearance – Pours a black color that lets some light through with a big tan head.

Smell – Earthy types of hops with some pine and citrus notes.  A slight roasted malt smell in there as well.

Taste – You get big hops up front.  Pine, grass and citrus hops.  It then finishes off with a toasted taste like coffee and bread.

I don’t think American Strong Ale is an accurate classification of this beer.  I would say it is more like a black IPA.  It has all the qualities of a big IPA except with some more roasted qualities to it that probably give it the black appearance.  This was originally Stone’s 11th Anniversary Ale and it was so well received that they decided to start making it every so often.  I’m glad they did.  This is a good one.
