Name – Zoetzuur Flemish Ale
Country – Belgium
Type – Flanders Red Ale
Appearance – Pours a pretty dark red that borders on brown. There is a nice white head but it disappears pretty quickly.
Smell – Cherries and yeast is pretty much what you pick up.
Taste – Awesome tart flavor of cherries, lemon and some sour apple. The yeast gives it a mild funk.
I love me some sour ales. My friend Brian brought this to the Coffee District a week or so ago and I really liked it so I went ahead and picked up a bottle myself. This is such an easy beer to drink and will probably be a staple in the summer for me. If you like sours definitely give this a try. Sorry for the picture quality. I left my camera at home and had to make due with the phone.
Overall Grade – A

Glad you liked this, the one time I had it I was very disappointed. There was a flavor that was off putting. Now I love sour beers and drink them quite often, so I have a good idea of what should be there. May people I know really like this beer and were surprised when I say that I didn’t like it. I’ll have to try it again…

March 31, 2010 at 12:05 pmI like the name, too.
This is only the second Flanders red I have had before. The other being Ommegang Rogue. It was probably more on the sweeter side than other sours I have had. I am getting a bottle of Jolly Pumpkin La Roja today and I was told that is similar to the Flanders red style as well.
