Brooklyn Local 2

Name – Brooklyn Local 2
Country – United States
Type – Belgian Strong Dark Ale

Appearance – Pours a deep red color almost like a black cherry color with a nice brownish to pinkish head.

Smell – Sweet granny smith apples with some spices, specifically cloves, in there.  A little bit of a smell of Belgian yeast.

Taste – Quite sweet with a sugar taste followed by apples again and yeast.  A little bit of a spice and slight bit of alcohol.

This is the newest of what I’m assuming will be a line of brews from Brooklyn.  I had the Local 1 before and now they have come out with the Local 2.  I enjoyed this one but not as much as I enjoyed the previous counterpart.  Not that there was anything wrong with this but it was just personal taste.

Overall Grade – B

I really liked this beer, but have to agree with you the local 1 was better. Brooklyn has a bunch of beers in there Brewmasters series, but I think they are on draft only, including a Cuvee and a Sassion. I spoke with Garrett Oliver a couple weeks ago and they are planning to have a 2009 version of black ops and possibly releasing Dark Matter (bourbon aged brown ale). I have a new respect for Brooklyn, their mass market beers pay the bills and they also product a lot of specialty and collaboration beers to sooth beer nuts like me.

I couldn’t agree with you more about their mass beers. They are very miss for me but their special brews are always really good. I would really love to try the Black Ops and Dark Matter.

I don’t know the availability in Fl of the Brewmasters Series, but there website may know more. The Cuvee just came out 2 weeks ago it should be in Beer Bars on draft now!
