Stone Cali-Belgique

Name – Stone Cali-Belgique
Country – United States
Type – Belgian IPA

Appearance – Pours a slight hazy orangish gold color with nice white head.

Smell – Citrus hops hit the nose first with some yeast notes in there.

Taste – I’m going to say that this is quite similar to the regular Stone IPA.  Big grapefruit hops with some other floral hop notes to it.  The only difference is the yeasty quality to it with the Belgian yeast used on this one.

Like I said this is pretty much just like the normal IPA of Stone’s with a slightly different yeast taste in there.  And if you read my review on the normal IPA you know that I liked it.  I will down grade this just slightly since I kind of like the normal one a little more.

Overall Grade – B+

I Had this one a few weeks ago. I thought it was tasty, but needed a little bit more sweet malt backing to accomodate the Spice/hop combo. But still, pretty good.

Hops are suddenly all the rage in belgium (as this article articulates).

I can’t remember the brand, but i had a hopped up traditional Belgium recently that was pretty good.

I’m surprised you didn’t like this beer better based on some of you previous reviews. I thought the hop profile was much better then the typical Stone IPA’s and the flavor had an nice extra layer of complexity with the Belgian yeast. I really enjoyed this beer and sadly I have not been able to find it in Jersey since…

Yeah I too was a little surprised that I didn’t like this as much as the normal IPA but I just enjoyed the regular one a little more. I had this while over in Arizona. Never seen it down here in Florida. And since I collect bottles that have the printing directly on the bottle I had to bring this one home with me.
