Kerberos Tripel

Name – Kerberos Tripel
Country – United States
Type – Tripel

Appearance – Pours a hazy golden orange color with a very small bit of a white head that is gone very fast.

Smell – Not a whole lot going on here.  It get some Belgian yeast smells and a faint bit of alcohol but that’s about it.

Taste – Some citrus sweetness with some bready qualities in there.  They yeasty quality is present as well as a bit of an alcohol burn at the end.

This was the final one of the Flying Dog Canis Major pack that I have not had and this was the least impressive of the bunch.  It seemed rather bland to me.  Not a lot going on in the nose or taste.  Other tripels I’ve had seem to have more going on.  Oh well we can’t win them all.  For a pack of four big beers to have 3 out of 4 be really good to me isn’t bad at all.

Overall Grade – C+

This was the most exciting beer for me out of the flying dog bunch. I miss it! It definitely was a bit strong, but rightfully so with the ABV. You are probably right though about there being more complex tripels out there. Definitely worth trying if you can though in my opinion.

These guys just can’t seem to do it for me. I’d try a single bottle of this but wouldn’t commit to more. I think the only thing I’ve genuinely enjoyed it their Gonzo, which is a very nice brew. I do want to point out that 8.5% really isn’t that big for a Tripel, so the fact that it tasted real strong is probably indicative of balance flaws. When I think about other Triples, Chimay is 9%, Rochefort is 11.2%, etc. The strength is definitely style and range appropriate. Maybe I still need to sip a bottle sometime.
