The Office Gastropub Opens in Delray Beach

It is always great to hear about a new bar opening up that is taking their beer seriously.  Last night was the grand opening of The Office in Delray Beach.  The establishment is owned by the same person that owns Vic and Angelo’s right across the street on Atlantic Ave.  From what I heard the place was mobbed last night so I decided to not quite take the trip yet and let the hype die down first.

Over at their website you can take a look at their menu which has a respectable draft list although if the prices are right a little expensive than what you can find most of those brews for.  The food as well by pricing looks quite expensive.  Maybe with my tax return I’ll take a trip over there.

But I hope they do well and bring craft beer to a new group of people that may have never known about it.  If you have gone to The Office please leave your thoughts.

Wow, i have a feeling that prices are on point. $6.00 for a magic hat?!?!? Wow! There is a local watering hole that is doing Magic Hat for 9.99 a pitcher. Also 60minute IPA is the same price ($6.00 a pint)?!?!?! I have never seen a place price match #9 and 60min.! Hoegarden is 5.75?!

Knowing the cost of most kegs on a commercial side, whoever is making the prices is smoking some good stuff. They aren’t making the same price margins off all beers. #9 should not be that expensive.

Sorry for my rant….I’ll probably check it out myself and give it a review as well…..might hit it up for lunch on a Sunday or something…..(less crowded)

Yeah the Magic Hat price was the first thing to jump out at me. A bomber in stores costs less than that and I know most bars I’ve seen it at are much cheaper. Same with many of the others, you can get them for cheaper at places in downtown Delray. Hopefully they will realize this and adjust.

I looked over their menu and i must say that they are high prices for just about everything, which makes me think that they either have a very high overhead, or they are trying to appeal to a different clientèle. You will leave about $20 lighter for a lunch, so in my estimation they are trying to appeal to a higher end customer. That is a risky venture in these economic times, but perhaps they were thinking that people who have money wouldn’t mind spending $22 for a few Lobster tacos. My advice, unless you are trying to impress a client or a date, forget about this place. You can get a lot better food and beer for a lot cheaper prices. I even know this living in Idaho!

Yah i have seen several BAD reviews of this place on facebook. Many people are saying that it is wayyyy too Beer Snob-y, and their staff looks down on a younger cliental (mid/late 20’s). Prices are high, and food is sub-par for price.

IMO; if your looking for good food DaDa is right around the corner at the same price, and then hit up coffee district for some beverages after!?

Thanks for the info Phil. After going through that menu some more I just couldn’t help but think this may just be someone trying to capitalize on the popularity of craft beer as opposed to really loving craft beer and putting it out there.

I saw this place the other day when I took a quick run to Coffee District. It was pretty busy and I could see all the taps from the street. The prices are highway robbery, though, and the beer menu, compared to Coffee District right down the street, is pretty weak. $6 for a Tucher?? $6.25 for a Holy Mackerel? Crazy. Sure, they don’t have the usual swill found at any number of Ale Houses, but for those in the know, craft beer at a fair price isn’t that hard to find anymore. This place definitely seems geared towards the upscale clientele in the area. I’ll pass!

The downtown Delray area really has a lot of places with craft beer. The Coffee District is a personal favorite of mine. Great selection, good price, awesome people working there and a tool free environment. But you also have Mellow Mushroom, Blue Anchor, Tryst and Kevro’s Art Bar as well. The more I think of it I have to believe they aren’t targeting the already craft beer drinkers because within a couple mile radius you can get good beer for much cheaper. They must know that.
