    Skull Splitter

    Name – Skull Splitter
    Country – Scotland
    Type – Scotch Ale

Appearance – Pours a dark brown with really no head at all on it.

Smell – Very sweet smells here.  Caramel, apple, cherry, grapes.

Taste – Pretty much right on with the smell.  Has an ever so slight alcohol sting at the end.

I was walking down the aisle at the beer store and this one just stuck out to me.  The red foil on the top and then the really corny viking on the label.  Plus it has an awesome name.  Who wouldn’t want to try something called Skull Splitter.  Plus this was my first Scotch Ale so I wasn’t really sure what to expect.  I was a little heavy and sticky but overall not bad.  I guess I will visit this corny viking from Scotland again someday.

    Two Hearted Ale

    Name – Two Hearted Ale
    Country – United States
    Type – American IPA

Appearance – Pours a murky gold color that is not transparent at all with a nice fluffy white head.

Smell – Nice smells of citrus and slight hints of pine.

Taste – Nice citrus notes of grapefruit, lemon and orange with a good combination of hops.  Not over powering on the hops here.

Bell’s comes through with a really simple and really good IPA here.  They didn’t do anything fancy or try to be big on the hops and it works.  Straight and to the point.  For anyone that is interested in IPAs but don’t like a lot of hops I would highly recommend this one.

    Terrapin Big Hoppy Monster

Name – Terrapin Big Hoppy Monster
    Country – United States
    Type – American Red Ale

Appearance – Poured quite a dark red color with off white almost light sand color to the head.  The head dissipated very quickly.

Smell – Smells of caramel and molasses hit the nose.

Taste – Hit with a sweet malt flavor right up front with tastes of cherry, caramel and raisins.  Thick in body with a sweet after taste.

I picked this having never reviewed a beer from Terrapin before.  I also read Hoppy on the label and figure it would be that but I really didn’t find it hoppy.  It had lots of sweet notes to it.  While it was good it just wasn’t what I was expecting from the name.  I would probably have this again and look forward to try other Terrapin brews in the future.
