    Stone Ruination IPA

    Name – Stone Ruination IPA
    Country – United States
    Type – American Double IPA

Appearance – Pours an amber to copper color with a thick white head.

Smell – The smell has lots of hops that are both citrus and piney.

Taste – Big on the hops!  Bitter hops at that.  Some citrus notes in there as well.

This will smack you in the face if you don’t know what you are expecting.  But would you expect anything less from Stone?  Didn’t think so.  Big hops on this one as I found it extremely enjoyable.  This one is not as high in the ABV as other double IPAs but don’t let that fool you.  Great beer.

    Overall Grade – A

    Hennepin

    Name – Hennepin
    Country – United States
    Type – Saison

Appearance – Poured a slightly hazy golden straw color with a big white head.

Smell – Sweet smells of apple and pear are big with some hints of yeast present.

Taste – As with many Belgian styled beers the taste pretty much is on with the smell. Apples, pears, sweet malts and some hops. A little yeasty.

I’ve had a few Belgian styles lately and continued it up with this one from Brewery Ommegang. I’ve had a few beers that say saison on the bottle but are technically classified otherwise. This is the first one that I have seen that is actually classified as a saison. I really enjoyed this one as with others in this style. It hides the alcohol content pretty well so that could sneak up on you.

    Delirium Nocturnum

    Name – Delirium Nocturnum
    Country – Belgium
Type – Belgian Strong Dark Ale

Appearance – Pours a deep brown color with a big frothy head.

Smell – Lots of sweet malt smells here with a tiny hit of the alcohol.

Taste – Quite sweet with the malts and tastes of caramel, raisins, grapes.

I’ve been meaning to try this for such a very long time and finally got myself around to picking it up.  It is definitely sweeter than what many might expect but don’t let that fool you as it is 8.5% ABV and could put you down for the count if you don’t pay attention.  I enjoyed this over other Belgian brews I have had.

    Overall Grade – A-
