    Name – Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
    Country – United States
    Type – American Double IPA

    Appearance – Poured a clear copper/amber color with a nice sized white head.

    Smell – Smells of hops, slight caramel malts and barley.

    Taste – Big hoppy taste with a nice sweet malt flavor of caramel to balance it out.  Slight alcohol taste to it.

    After posting the article about the new IPA that will be released by Dogfish Head this spring it made me realize I hadn’t reviewed the 90 Minute IPA on the site despite having it before.  This is my favorite of the 3 popular IPAs from DFH.  It is a well balanced brew with just the right amount of hops and malts to not make one over baring.

    Overall Grade – A

    Dogfish Head to Introduce New Limited Release IPA

    As I’ve said before, when you think of IPA you have to think of Dogfish Head for their 3 big versions of the style.  So it was announced that they would be releasing a limited IPA in some east coast markets this spring.  Squall IPA, as it’s being called, will be co-branded with Rogues Gallery.  They are a clothing store out of Portland, Maine that specializes in nautical and sea related clothes.

    Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine Style Ale 2009

    Name – Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine Style Ale 2009
    Country – United States
    Type – Barleywine

    Appearance – Pours a murky copper/amber color with a big, slightly tan head.  The lacing on the glass was good.

    Smell – Big earthy hops and barley hit the nose.

    Taste – Tastes included hops of course with barley.  There was a slight sweet malt flavor with a hint of caramel.

    My second barley wine in a week’s time and this one is Stone’s limited release for 2009.  I found this right up there with Bigfoot that I had last week but with less of an alcohol burn in the taste and smell.  Which is a good thing to me.

    Overall Grade – B+
