Samuel Adams Latitude 48 IPA

Name – Samuel Adams Latitude 48 IPA
Country – United States
Type – American IPA

So after a weekend of work I was not able to do what I wanted to accomplish and that was record a new video review.  It’s not that I was even busy, I was actually extremely slow at work.  It was just that being that slow was so tiring and the days just drug on.  This just made me want to do nothing but relax and watch something on the tube.

But with a few days off coming up I will make it a point to get a video review done.  Maybe I’ll even have a guest on because this Friday is the big event (yes Phil it is a beer event).  It is the MikeLovesBeer.com 3rd Anniversary Party.  It’s going to be quite an event so be sure to come out.

But as for today’s review I have Samuel Adams Latitude 48 IPA.  While the rest of American (and some parts of Florida) are enjoying the new Deconstructed pack I have yet to see it in my local store.  So to make up for it I have purchased the regular version.  I guess I might as well see what it’s like with multiple hops (probably just 3 or that would be too much) before tackling the single hop varieties.

It pours a clear amber color into my nonic pint glass.  It has fluffy off white colored head and leaves some lacing on the glass as it disappears.

The nose has some earthy and citrus like hop characters.  There is also a very noticeable biscuit scent there as well.

The taste is a lot more of the hops.  They are actually pretty resiny to me.  More earthy, citrus and some pine tastes in there.  Not a whole lot in the way of malt to balance it out.  Sort of bitter finish.

I’m actually surprised by this one.  I expected more balance from it but it was actually pretty hop forward.  It wasn’t ridiculous by any means but a hophead would be happy.

I actually enjoyed it.  At 6% ABV this a nice sessionable IPA.  Lots of flavor in here.  It does make me a little more excited to try the single hop versions whenever they reach shelves near me.

Grade – B

That’s about the grade I’d give this one too. The individual pieces? Save your money for something good. My Total Wine put the Deconstructed series boxes in the wine section, and I’d have never found them except that I asked. Maybe they did that in your store too. If you decide not to buy or never find it, I think I have two or three of them left and you can have them.

I’ll take you up on that offer. Except I have no clue when I’ll see you next unless your coming to the party Friday.

I thought it was a good IPA, and the deconstructed variety pack is definitely worth trying. The best in the world? No. But definitely good enough to taste the differences.
