Brother Tuckers

Last night before heading down to Miami for South Florida Beer Blog’s 1st Anniversary everyone’s favorite Assistant Manager of Total Wine in Ft. Lauderdale, Ed Roberts, recommended that we stop at Brother Tuckers in Pompano Beach for dinner and a beer.  I’ve heard of this place for quite awhile and everyone says the same thing.  It’s small, got a good selection of beer and has great food.  Sounds like my kind of place.

The location is a hop step and a jump away from the beach itself and I found that pretty cool for a Belgian beer bar.  The brick front of the establishment sets it apart from all the other storefronts along this strip and it made me feel happy to be walking into it.  The inside reminds me of a very small family run Italian restaurant.  I was expecting one of the back tables to be filled with some Belgian mob members.  Wait, what?  But there is probably between 10 – 15 tables and very small bar that can comfortably fit 4.

The beer selection was very nice including 4 on draft and many more in bottles.  I felt I must drink a Belgian beer while here so I opted for an old reliable in St. Bernardus Abt. 12.  I can just never go wrong with that one.  I found it cool that behind the bar were those traditional wooden wine racks, you know the ones that are just diamonds one next to another, filled with beers.  Very cool visual in my opinion.

The food menu was small but filled with a wide range of dishes.  They definitely seem to have found their best dishes and stick to them, good call I say.  I went with the Burg-a-tory.  A hamburger topped with jalapeno peppers, hot sauce and pepper jack cheese.  The patty was big and cooked perfectly to my order.  The juices from the burger and the spicy toppings just went so well.  This is by far one of the best burgers I’ve ever had.  Ed had these gigantic turkey meatballs that looked very good as well.

The pricing is moderate to maybe a little pricey.  Some of the beers cross the $10 plain but they are mostly Belgian beers and for that it can be understandable.  Most of the food is between $10 – $15 but believe me the quality is worth it.

I must say that Brother Tuckers is a great little place to grab some good food and have some good beers in a very laid back environment.  Afterward you can even walk down to the beach for a little stroll.  I highly recommend.
