Name – Pisgah Valdez
Country – United States
Type – American Imperial Stout
Appearance – Poured a jet black color with a tan head that left some lacing on the glass.
Smell – Straight up coffee. I don’t really get anything else.
Taste – Woah the coffee taste is strong in this one. I get a hint of chocolate and the alcohol can be picked up a bit.
This one just wasn’t my thing. I don’t drink coffee and the taste was just an assault of coffee. But if you are into those really big coffee brews then I would say grab one if you can. Also I find the text on the bottle to be very similar to The Sword’s album Age of Winter.
Don’t forget that I reviewed this at Dos Beerigos as well on their scale and it can be read here.
Overall Grade – C-

Mike,
to bad you don’t like coffee, otherwise you might have rated this higher. I see where your coming from on this one, the coffee is strong. I could drink this instead of my Starbucks for breakfast!
Have you tried any “coffee” beers you’ve like yet?
March 13, 2010 at 10:34 pmI’ve had a number of beers with a slight coffee taste in them and I can get past that a lot of times but I haven’t had many that boast coffee in their names. I did have Wake n Bake at the Lodge before and that was tough for me to finish.
