My New Year’s Resolution for 2010

Usually I am the first person to poo poo on those that make New Year’s resolutions.  And I also believe that is the first time I have ever had the words ‘poo poo’ in a first sentence ever.  But this year I have decided to make a few myself.  Will I hold up to all of them?  Probably not because I always appear to be plagued with the horribly crippling disease know as laziness.  But there is one particular resolution that I know I intend on keeping and am actually looking very much forward to keeping.

In October 2008 I took a home brewing class to see what it was like to actually brew beer.  It seemed relatively easy to do.  If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball.  But in actual terms, if you can make soup you can make beer.  Unfortunately I was hit then with one of my severe relapses of laziness and soon after purchased my first house.  This pretty much left me with no time or money to really put forward with the initial purchase of the brewing kit.

Through the past year I have had friends and family constantly asking me, “When are you going to brew beer?”  Couple this incessant questioning with seeing fellow bloggers like Mike and Nate from Thank Heaven for Beer and Pete from Simply Beer always talking about home brewing and I was going insane.  Scott from The Brew Club had even jumped on board with all the others in starting to home brew.  I just decided I had to do this and with a new year I could start clean and jump head first into it.

With some recommendations of equipment from Pete and going through a few catalogs I believe I have found what I need to start.  With one more big bill to pay this coming week I will get that out of the way then purchase my kit and recipe for the first brewing.  I’ll update with when I get the equipment and updates of the brewing process when it comes around.

I look forward to this New Year’s resolution, unlike my other one to begin getting back in shape.  Yes I am going to try to get into shape while also making beer, sounds dumb I know.  But I’m excited to be jumping into the beer culture even more.  And I thank all the previously mentioned bloggers in advance for inadvertently pushing me into a new addiction.  Because I’m sure this will become one.  Here we go!

Mike, I think you had some better excuses than laziness. Heck, with a new house, home brewing can get pushed down the priority list pretty quickly, so don’t beat yourself up about it. For me, its time. I just don’t have enough free time to dive into it like I’d want to. Still, I do hope you get to try doing it in 2010, and pleas don’t open a post with ‘poo poo’ anymore! 🙂 Happy New Year!
