Cigar City Takes Gold at GABF

cigarcityAs many know the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) has come and gone over this past weekend.  Many of great beer lovers travel out to Colorado to celebrate American made beer.  I unfortunately was not one of those, I will make it out there one day though.  I was however lucky enough to visit a more local beer festival at the 2nd Annual Treasure Coast Beer Festival (TCBF) in Fort Pierce, FL.  While there I was able to indulge in a true Florida brewery in, Cigar City.

The Tampa brewery is making waves in the beer community with the well made craft brews.  While I was able to sample their Big Sound Scotch Ale a couple weeks ago, thanks to Ed Roberts, the TCBF was my first time trying others of their brews.  Their Maduro Oatmeal Brown Ale was amazing and their Jai Alai IPA was quite good.  I was also pleased to speak with someone there about the company and their plans to be moving further down the state.

After my nice weekend I was very glad to read that Cigar City had won a gold medal at GABF in Wood or Barrel Aged category for their Humidor Series Jai Alai IPA.  This is a great honor and a huge step for such a young brewery.  I want to extend a congratulations to all the people at Cigar City on their win and to show that Florida is coming up in the brewing world!
