Storm King Stout

Name – Storm King Stout
Country – United States
Type – Russian Imperial Stout

Appearance – Pours a solid black color with a large brown head.

Smell – Roasted malts with hints of coffee and chocolate.  Slight hoppy presence along with a bit of the alcohol.

Taste – Met upfront with a mixture of roasted malts and piney hops.  The hops stick around through out most of the taste and some chocolate and slight alcohol burn at the end.

This is my second of three Victory reviews going up in a row.  This one took me by a bit of a surprise.  Ed Roberts told me that it has a big hoppy presence for a typical imperial stout and he was right.  I don’t think I’ve really noticed many that do have that in them.  The bitterness stuck around through most of the tasting but mixed very well with the malts.  I am quickly becoming a fan of Victory.

Overall Grade – A-

Good beer, I have a review coming up for this beer soon. I’m also aging a six pack of them. I want to see if they improve with age especially that bit a alcohol on the end.

The hops will most likely tail off from the aging. I might have to try that myself.

True the hops will tail off too, but I like my Imperial stouts to be bold and malty, not necessarily hoppy. So for me, to reduce the heat and hops will play more towards what I like best about the style.

This made my top 12 Imperial Stouts list. Victory Storm King is definitely one of the top impy stouts IMHO. Thick, rich and very flavorful. Good thing they ship this stuff to Colorado. Also love their HopDevil and Golden Monkey.
