Heavy Seas – Peg Leg (Imperial Stout)

Name – Heavy Seas – Peg Leg (Imperial Stout)
Country – United States
Type – Russian Imperial Stout

Appearance – Pours a deep, opaque black color with a nice light brown, tannish head.

Smell – All the smells are sort of subdued but you can pick up roasted malts along with some coffee and chocolate.

Taste – Pretty much right on with the smell.  The roasted malts are the predominant taste with chocolate and coffee present.  There is some very slight bitterness to it of hops.  Slight alcohol burn in there at the end but nothing intense.

Not a bad offering from Clipper City here.  Nothing really wrong except that the flavors and smells don’t seem that powerful.  But all in all a better than average stout.

Overall Grade – B-

I’d agree with this review and rating.
What I will say, is that I appreciate Clipper City’s attempt to sneak in bigger beers into mainstream consumerism. It takes a bit of moxy, I believe, and hopefully is encouraging an adventurous spirit in hum drum beer drinkers.

I liked their Hop3 that I had a while back and the Small Craft Warning was okay. I can see them as a gateway brewery for people definitely. I would like to try their DIPA that they have but have never seen it here. http://www.ccbeer.com/beerlist/Mutiny%2BFleet

We have the DIPA over here got it about 2 weeks ago. I haven’t tried it yet though. You should sign up for the trading deal over THFB, and I’ll send you some.

Not a Clipper City fan. I’ve never had anything that I thought was very good. Their Ober Pils is one of their better brews. Simply lackluster stuff, for the most part.

I want to get involved in the trading but I just feel like I don’t have anything great to offer here in Florida that you can’t already get elsewhere.
