Samuel Adams Latitude 48 Deconstructed Ahtanum

So yesterday turned out to not be so bad.  A work around in order to remote to servers was done and all went well.  But today internet is still out at the office so again I’m working from home.  I’ve always dug when I work from home.  Some people say that the lose of human interaction can take it’s toll on people but I have never found that as such.

But for today’s review I have another in the Deconstructed series.  Today we go with Ahtanum.  It’s a hop variety that I don’t know an awful lot about but I have heard of it before as opposed to Zeus which I talked about before.

I pour it into my nonic pint glass and it arrives a lot like the others with a clear orange color.  There a good sized white head on top but it fades fast and leaves a small amount of lacing.

I get a good amount of orange in the nose along with some pine for the hop profile.  There is a bit of caramel in there to balance it out but it’s not super present.

The taste has a bitter orange peel taste upfront before it turns piney.  There is a biscuit and caramel like presence in the back before it goes bitter again in the aftertaste.

I’ve heard that this hop is used predominately in dry hopping of beers and I can absolutely get that from the taste.  A lot of bitter tastes to it.  But I really enjoyed it.  This is probably my favorite of the ones I’ve had so far.

So that’s 3 down and 2 to go on the Latitude 48 Deconstructed pack.  Tomorrow I’ll bring you the Hallertau Mittelfrueh and then Saturday wrap things up with Simcoe.  Hope you have a good Thursday!

Ah it’s hump day.  Almost to the weekend and even though it is only 9:30 in the morning I can feel this is going to be a long day already.  I woke up later than normal, almost to my alarm clock, after going to bed quite early last night.  Yesterday I was just out of it.  But I awoke to find an email that the internet in our office is out so to work from home.  When we normally work from home we remote connect to our desktops in the office in order to access certain things.  This isn’t going to be pretty.

But anyway I am reviewing my second in the Sam Adams Latitude 48 Deconstructed pack.  Today is East Kent Goldings.  This is one of the most popular English hop varieties.  So lets see how it is.

I pour it into my English style nonic pint glass and it arrives a very clear orange color with a sandy colored head.  The head is gone pretty fast and there is little lacing on the glass.

The aroma is a bit of orange and grassy hops with a biscuit like quality in there as well.  Some slight caramel.

The taste is quite grassy as well with some slightly earthy characters to it.  I get some citrus hints in there and a little bit of caramel as well.  The body is very thin to me.

So the second one in the series is pretty much what I thought going in.  It’s an English style hop so it’s not going to tear the enamel off your teeth.  It’s grassy and the malts to it really make it feel like an English style IPA.  I was a bit disappointed in the body.  I thought it was quite thin and could have been bigger.

Okay so it’s almost time to take on this day so I’m cutting the synopsis a bit short.  I’m hoping it isn’t hectic one, for myself and you.
