Top 5 Beers From Treasure Coast Beer Fest

Another Treasure Coast Beer Fest is in the books and again it looks like a great success for all involved.  The weather was perfect as we caught the tail end of a little cold front coming through Florida.  The organization was top notch as well.  But of course the main reason we were all there was the beer.  So I give you (in no particular order) my top 5 beers of the festival.

Due South Brewing – Southbound Brown – This was actually the very first beer of the day for me.  Just happened that the soon to be open brewery was right up front as soon as you got into the festival.  So I stopped by to say hi to Mike and try some of the beers.  His new creation Southbound Brown was one part easy drinking and another part lots of flavor.  The roasted malts interlaced with caramel and a nice hint of hops wonderfully.  Great way to start off my day.

Tequesta Brewing – Vantoberfest – Matt at Tequesta keeps putting out excellent items to style.  This take on a German Marzen is incredibly to style.  It’s caramel and slight spices couple with an easy to drink session beer that Munich themselves should be proud of.

Innis & Gunn – Oak Aged Beer – Mark of the soon opening Vine & Barley Palm City took me over to the table to try this.  A pale ale aged in white oak barrels offers a lovely yet subtle hint of oak that adds vanilla to the easy drinking pale ale.  Just wish they didn’t put this stuff in clear bottles.

Funky Buddha Brewery – Bonita Applebum – What would a top 5 beer without one of Funky Buddha’s incredible experimental ales.  This apple pie in a glass could warm you up on the chilliest of Florida days.  Some ice cream maker needs to seriously contact them about a collaboration on this beer.

Tequesta Brewing – Hop Scotch – Making their second appearance on the list is Tequesta Brewing.  Hop Scotch is hands down my favorite beer that Tequesta has ever made.  And that’s saying a lot because I really like a number of their beers.  It interlaces so much going on with a brilliantly complex flavor.  I hope they decide to at least make this once a year if not more often.

    Honorable Mentions
    BX Beer Depot Scottish Heavy
    Cigar City Hotter Than Helles
    Due South Caramel Creame Ale
    Florida Beer Conchtoberfest
    Funky Buddha No Crusts

If you missed the fest you really missed a good time.  For people in the northern reaches of South Florida and the Treasure Coast this should be a staple in the beer fest year from now on.

Did you go to TCBF?  What stood out to you?

5 Things to Look Forward to at Treasure Coast Beer Fest

I told you I would be back to remind you.  This Saturday is the 4th Annual Treasure Coast Beer Fest in Fort Pierce, FL.  To get you prepared, or push you over to the right side if you’re on the fence, I am going to list for you 5 things to look forward to at this years TCBF.

    1. A Great Location – The Fort Pierce City Hall Parking Garage may not sound like the most glamorous location.  Hell Fort Pierce doesn’t sound all that enticing to many in the first place.  But trust me it works.  Rain?  No problem.  Sun beating down?  No problem again.  Being inside of the parking garage keeps you out of the elements and allows the fest to go on easily.
    2. Due South Brewing – They did the cask festival in St. Pete a few months back but this is really their first fest around the home market.  The future Boynton Beach brewery will be bringing you a number of beers to sample including what they plan to have as year round brews and a couple treats.  I’ve been told to definitely try the Red Hoptober.
    3. Funky Buddha Brewery – Yeah yeah.  You’ve heard me praising these guys for well over a year now.  But it’s well warranted.  You can be sure to expect a few special brews from them along with a their year round offerings.  Be sure to stop by their booth to see their time releases for the special brews.
    4. Treasure Coast BrewMasters – The home brew club with the home field advantage.  These guys always bring out something awesome to taste.  Be sure to stop by and say hi but most importantly try a brew.
    5. Fun – This fest back in it’s first year was my first ever beer fest.  So it holds a special place in my heart.  The organizers are great people and have done a great job in the past to make this a must attend event for beer lovers and all.  So be sure to have a good time and drink in moderation.

The fest starts at 1 pm and goes until 5 pm.  You can still purchase tickets online and at a few select locations.  Visit the ticketing page of the site for all the details.  I hope to see you there!

Beer Wars Screening and Tasting Friday

If you are a craft beer fan you have probably already seen the Anat Baron documentary Beer Wars.  If not then bad beer fan!  Okay now that you have been scolded you have a chance for redemption.  This Friday, October, 22, at the Whole Foods in Boca Raton they will be doing a special Beer Wars screening.  But if that isn’t enough to hook you they will be hold a special tasting and discussion in their classroom at 6:30 pm before the movie.

For just $5 you will get to sample brews from Cigar City, Holy Mackerel, Inlet, Dogfish Head and Brooklyn.  Plus you will get to talk to representatives from Cigar City, Holy Mackerel and Brown Specialty.  You can ask questions about the beers or ask Phil what it’s like being a FAU fan this year.  Okay probably don’t want to ask that question but still.

Then after the tasting and discussion you can stick around to watch and awesome documentary about craft beer and some of the people that make it.  And Whole Foods has a great hot meal selection so you can pick up some dinner as well to enjoy with the flick.  Should be a great night overall.
