Name – Flying Fish Exit 16 Wild Rice Double IPA
Country – United States
Type – American Double IPA
Appearance – Poured a pretty cloudy orange color with a big white head that left some lacing on the glass.
Smell – The citrusy hops are dry in nature and pretty much all I get in the nose.
Taste – More citrus hops again with grapefruit and lemon being there. There is a floral presence as well that leaves the mouth a little dry.
I made it a point to try one of Flying Fish’s Exit Series while I was on vacation and I came across this one in the Wegmans in Warrington. I remember when this came out and was interested by the name saying wild rice but there is no real smell or taste of rice in this. A pretty standard double IPA here. It was worth the try.
Overall Grade – B-

two words, CAT PISS! A friend of mine brought this over when it first came while we were brewing beer, all I can say is it smelled like ripe cat piss. I couldn’t enjoy my glass…

June 16, 2010 at 9:16 amI had this at SAVOR a few weeks ago and thought it was very good. Granted this was after sampling about 20 others beers, but I remember especially liking the light and crisp mouthfeel. It definitely didn’t seem seem like a DIPA, and I actually thought it was an IPA until this post. Of course I probably would have given an A+ to cat piss at that point ; )
June 16, 2010 at 9:47 amApparently the new Citra Hops can produces a cat pee aroma, so I’ve heard. not sure if they used citra, but this is the second beer I’ve had this year that had cat pee in the aroma. I have 4 cats and that smell elicits a knee jerk reaction. I can’t stand it. Talk about Pavlovian response! 🙂 I’m looking forward to the next Exit which should be released next week(?) exit 6 rye
