Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier

Name – Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier
Country – United States
Type – Witbier

Appearance – Pours a hazy orange color with a small white head that was gone rather quick.

Smell – Slight blackberry smell of course but were not overly present.  Smells of wheat, yeast and spices present as well.

Taste – Again some slightly tart blackberry tastes up front but finishes off with a bit of a yeasty taste.

The gentleman at the beer store that told me about this said this is Boston Beer’s second time doing this one.  The first was just over board on the blackberry flavor and they decided to cut it back.  I can say it is definitely not overly sweet with the blackberry taste.  It was pleasant but couldn’t see myself having more than a couple in a sitting before the sugar just takes over.

Overall Grade – B-

I think that I’d put this one around C+ or C. Not too far from where you are. I had this not too long ago. In fact, it was the day before I went to Three Floyds for Dark Lord Day. It’s simply not very good, at least in my estimation. I was hoping for some more the wheat to really pop!

I’m not big on most flavored wheat beers but I like that this was not over powering on the blackberry flavor. I’ve had some berry wheats that just taste like syrup and I was just glad this wasn’t one of them.
