Lord Chesterfield Ale

25 Aug

Name – Lord Chesterfield Ale
Country – United States
Type – American Pale Ale

Appearance – Pours a very clear orangish/yellow color.  There was a big fluffy white head but it was gone pretty quickly and didn’t leave much lacing.

Smell – The smell is mostly grainy and malty but you do pick up a slight hop profile there.

Taste – Pretty similar to the smell.  It is grainy and malty.  I hate saying the same thing but it really was.  Very clean and crisp.  Light in body.

Another one of the recent Yuengling additions to South Florida is the Lord Chesterfield Ale.  Funny story that when I went on the brewery trip in the Summer of 2008 the tour guide mentioned this is the only ale that Yuengling brews.  Umm did they forget about their yummy porter that they make?  Anyway this is a pretty light and easy drinking beer.  I found it very sessionable like most of the Yuengling line.  Plus being from PA I have a soft spot in my heart for them.

Yuengling Porter

2 Aug

Name – Yuengling Porter
Country – United States
Type – American Porter

Appearance – Pours a very dark brown color with a nice sized light brown head that does stick around a bit a leave some lacing on the glass.

Smell – Roasted and chocolate malts up front.  There is a slight bit of coffee smell in the back as well.

Taste – Again we find the roast and chocolate malts but there is a nice sweetness to it as well.  A little bit of nuttiness in there as followed by some coffee and this is a really nice taste.

We I visited the original Yuengling brewery a few years back I sampled this in the sample room and loved it.  Unfortunately it was no where to be found in South Florida.  We could only get the Lager, Light Lager and Black & Tan in stores here despite their major brewery in Tampa.  We on our trip up to Tampa I was thrilled to see six packs of Porter and jumped on it.  Now that I have brought it back I am now seeing Porter and Lord Chesterfield Ale hitting shelves down here as well.  While it is still worth it that I picked this up in Tampa I am so happy to see we are finally getting other stuff from America’s Oldest Brewery.  This is my favorite of their brews.

Yuengling Bock

1 Mar

Name – Yuengling Bock
Country – United States
Type – Bock

Appearance – Poured a very dark red that bordered on brown color.  Very bubbly off white head that disappears very quickly.

Smell – Roasted malts and a bit of nut.

Taste – Roasted and sweet malt flavors with a hint of nuts and spices.  There is an ever so slight hop profile there.

Being from Pennsylvania I was very excited to hear that Yuengling would be making the Bock again this year but even more excited that it would be put into bottles as opposed to draft only last year.  This is a pretty enjoyable bock overall and will definitely pick up some more before it is gone.

Overall Grade – B
