Pick Axe Pale Ale

13 Apr

Name - Pick Axe Pale Ale
Country - United States
Type - English Pale Ale

Appearance - Poured a slightly hazy amber color with a very small white head.  But surprisingly it left quite a bit of lacing on the glass.

Smell - Slightly hoppy aroma with a little bit of pine.

Taste - The taste was kind of minimal on everything.  Slight hops, slight malty flavors and a little bit of a floral background.

Pick Axe seemed to lack in overall flavor as the flavors seemed like they were just there but didn’t stand out.  I could see this as being a good gateway beer for someone new to the craft beer scene because it will not over power them.  But for someone looking for a lot of flavor this one feel a bit short.

Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown Ale

21 Sep

Name - Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown Ale
Country - United States
Type - American Brown Ale

Appearance - Light brown color with little to no head.

Smell - Very sweet and pleasant smell of maple syrup and brown sugar.

Taste - A slight taste of maple syrup but over all and kind of empty taste that leaves you wanting more.

I was recommended on this by the owner of PP Cobb while we were at the Treasure Coast Beer Festival so I decided to take a stab at it.  The appearance and smell were really nice but when it came to taste it was seriously laking.  Even with two bottles I was just wondering why the taste was so minimal.  I was a little disappointed but may want to try it again sometime down the road.
