Samuel Adams Longshot Traditional Bock

4 Jun

Name – Samuel Adams Longshot Traditional Bock
Country – United States
Type – Bock

Appearance – Pours a semi clear brown to dark red color with a one finger off white head that disappeared quickly.

Smell – Slight caramel and roasted malts are picked up but it is pretty subdued.

Taste – Slight malt taste up front but it is very thin with some roasted notes.  Rather underwhelming.

This is the last in the Longshot pack from Sam Adams and it just came across and a very underdone bock.  The smells and taste were so thin and just didn’t have a good punch to them for what you would expect from a bock.

Overall Grade – D+

Samuel Adams Longshot Double IPA

3 Jun

Name – Samuel Adams Longshot Double IPA
Country – United States
Type – Double IPA

Appearance – Poured a very cloudy amber to copper color with a big slightly off white head that stuck around awhile and left a good amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell – Big hop smells with grapefruit and some pine notes to it.

Taste – As you would expect it has a big hop taste.  Big grapefruit hops at that.  Nice malt backing to it to even things out well.  Very slight alcohol burn.

This is the second of the Longshot pack I got and by what the bottle cap says this was the overall winner in the contest and I can see why.  Nothing fancy was done with this one just a straight forward and honest double IPA.  Great look, smell and taste to it with nothing being left behind and nothing going over board.  I really enjoyed this one.

Samuel Adams Longshot Cranberry Wit

2 Jun

Name – Samuel Adams Longshot Cranberry Wit
Country – United States
Type – Witbier

Appearance – Pours a hazy orangish color with a bubbly head that disappeared rather quickly.

Smell – Ever so slight smell of cranberry but some other smells of orange, lemon and yeast.

Taste – A citrus like taste with that taste of yeast and wheat bread.  Nothing really there for the way of cranberry.

This one is part of the Sam Adams Longshot series of home brewed recipes and while it is a pretty good wheat it just really doesn’t have much in the way of cranberry in it.  I really didn’t pick anything up on the taste and it was only mildly present on the smell.  So that leaves me rather confused.  If you are looking to get a good cranberry taste then you really won’t get it here but you do get a good wheat beer anyway.

Overall Grade – C+
