Warsteiner Oktoberfest

26 Sep

Name - Warsteiner Oktoberfest
Country - Germany
Type - Marzen

Appearance - Light orange/gold color with a nice sized white head.

Smell - The aroma is malty and slightly grainy.

Taste - The taste was very light of malts and bread.

With my recent Marzen kick in getting prepared for Oktoberfest I have to say that this one was a dissapointment.  The look and smell were nice but the taste just wasn’t there.  It seemed very weak to me and it just left me unfulfilled.

Overall Grade – D+

Penn Oktoberfest

28 Aug

Name - Penn Oktoberfest
Country - United States
Type - Marzen

Appearance - Light amber color with a very, very minimal head.

Smell - Sweet malty smell.

Taste - Malty but not very strong on it’s taste. Sort of watered down.

With getting into the season of fall coming up I decided to give another “Oktoberfest” American brew a try. I know I had another Penn Brewing beer not to long ago and I like to try to space out tastings from particular breweries but I just got caught up in the upcoming season. I found this kind of disappointing as the taste was just not there. It was not that full and tasted a little watered down.

Overall Grade – D+

Samuel Adams Octoberfest

27 Aug

Name - Samuel Adams Octoberfest
Country - United States
Type - Marzen

Appearance - A dark amber color with a very small white head that didn’t last long.

Smell - A very sweet smell of malt and caramel.

Taste - Also a very malty, sweet taste.  A hint of caramel to it.

It was a very nice full bodied beer with a nice sweet taste to it as you would expect from a German style amber beer.  The name fits it well and I look forward to having this more often as the fall comes around.

Overall Grade – B-
