Smuttynose IPA

23 Mar

Name - Smuttynose IPA
Country - United States
Type - American IPA

Appearance - Poured a clear orangish color with very small white head that didn’t leave much lacing.

Smell - Big pine smell with some citrus hints.

Taste - Again, big pine taste right up front that finishes with a nice hoppy taste.

This was my first brew from New Hampshire’s Smuttynose.  I’ve never noticed it in the store before so I wonder if they just started carrying it or if I just missed it all this time.  More or less it is what an American IPA should be.  Was a little too big on the pine tastes in my opinion but some people really like that.

Hops Infusion

18 Feb

Name - Hops Infusion
Country - United States
Type - American IPA

Appearance - Pours a murky copper color with a small foamy white head.

Smell - Has quite hoppy smells with pine and slight grapefruit.

Taste - The name isn’t kidding.  Big on the hops and they are very earthy.  Pine and floral notes present and a ever so slight citrus taste that helps it not be to overboard.  The last few sips had an extra kick of alcohol to them.

A big hopped brew that really doesn’t go overboard with the hops but has just enough for a hop head to enjoy.  I think this is a good IPA and would recommend for those that are big on hops.

ACME California IPA

11 Feb

Name - ACME California IPA
Country - United States
Type - American IPA

Appearance - Poured a golden straw color with a nice white head.

Smell - The smell was faint but malty.  Some pine and citrusy hop notes in there.

Taste - Slight pine taste with good grapefruit like hops along with it.  Not high on the hops at all.

This IPA is pretty straight forward for it’s style with nothing crazy going on but it seems to lack something.  I think it just isn’t bold enough.  While I’m not asking for it to be a hop bomb a little bit more hops would have made this a great IPA.

Overall Grade – C
