Penn Weizen

13 Aug

Name - Penn Weizen
Country - United States
Type - Hefeweizen

Appearance - A very hazy, straw color of gold.  Very minimal head.

Smell - Faint smell of pear with the traditional wheat smell.

Taste - The taste is just about the same as the smell.  Wheats really don’t fool you at all which is good.

While this is a good wheat ale I have a hard time really seeing it stand out amongst other wheats.  While it is good there is nothing that just grabs me and makes me feel like this one is special.  If you like wheats you won’t be disappointed but you possibly won’t be blown away by it.

Overall Grade – C+

Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse

25 Jul

Name - Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse
Country - Germany
Type - Hefeweizen (Wheat)

Appearance - Hazy light orange color with a large 2 finger white head.

Smell - Sweet smell of citrus and even a hint of banana.

Taste - Very full and tastes almost exactly how it smells.

My friend told me to try this when I went to the German bar, Little Munich, so I bit. I didn’t have any idea it was a wheat beer when I ordered it and was pleasantly surprised. I had it from draft and actually had two glasses because it was so good. I would definitely have this one again

Overall Grade – B
