Ommegang BPA – Belgian Style Pale Ale

17 Mar

Name – Ommegang BPA – Belgian Style Pale Ale
Country – United States
Type – Belgian Pale Ale

Appearance – Poured a slightly hazy orange color with a big foamy white head.

Smell – The Belgian yeast stands out but you also get some lemony scents and citrus hops along with it.

Taste – Grapefruit and other citrus hops mix well with the yeast.  Lemony and a bit of clove presence there as well.  Very refreshing.

A limited edition brew from the folks at Ommegang this is a very easy to drink Belgian pale ale.  Oh so refreshing.  I think this should have waited a bit to come out for the summer and it would be great after being in the sun all day.  Definitely a must try.

Overall Grade – A-

Orval Trappist Ale

6 Jul

Name – Orval Trappist Ale
Country – Belgium
Type – Belgian Pale Ale

Appearance – Poured a clear reddish brown color with frothy white head.

Smell – Sweet fruit smells and just a general sugary type smell.

Taste – Sweet fruits with some slight floral hops in the background and finishes with a bit of an alcohol bite.

I’ve always heard rave reviews about Orval so I knew it was time to try it for once.  While I do believe it is a very good beer, I don’t believe it is the best beer in the world (I have read that a few times from some writers).

Overall Grade – B+

Karma

26 Jun

Name – Karma
Country – United States
Type – Belgian Pale Ale

Appearance – Poured a clear orangish amber color with a small white head and wasn’t there for long.

Smell – Slight malty smell to it with some hints of caramel and green apple.  Some spice picked up as well.

Taste – Sweet flavor of green apples and caramel.  Yeast taste is present and a very slight floral hop backing to it.

I want to try this last summer when it was out but never got around to it so I saw it back on the shelves at the store and decided to pick it up.  It’s not a bad all around Belgian style pale ale but nothing just shot out at me.

Overall Grade – B-
