Yesterday upcoming Boynton Beach brewery Due South Brewing received their official approval from the Tax and Trade Bureau to begin work as a brewery.  With this great news it means that Due South can begin production of beers.

I spoke with owner/brewer Mike Halker last week and he informed me that build out will be starting this week with test batches being brewed shortly there after.  As of right now they are looking at a February to March period for their grand opening.  But you will be able to see them and taste some of their beers at the upcoming Jupiter Craft Brewers Festival on January 28th.

Who’s excited for this?  I know I am being that I live just a few minutes from where the brewery is.

We are excited to announce that 2012 will be a big year for the Funky Buddha Brewery. In just a few short months, March 2012, Funky Buddha Brewery will begin distribution of our beers. Many of you are shaking your heads and wondering how we are distributing on our modest 1.5 barrel system. Well, we’re not. One of the most amazing things that we have covet about this business is the generosity and overall feel of community in this industry. Cigar City Brewery has continued to strive to put Florida Beer on the map, and are allowing us to brew on their system. We are going to launch one, possibly two of our core brands as we plan for our full brewery expansion. Yes, that’s right…the Funky Buddha Brewery will be a full scale production brewery in South Florida in 2012! We would like to take this opportunity as 2011 comes to an end, to thank all of those who have supported and championed our growth and success. We really appreciate the support and encouragement! It’s because of our great customers, passionate bloggers, tweeters and friends that have helped spread the word and share the love. We truly thank you for your continued support. We are excited to have this opportunity to blog our experience and blog step by step of our growth with everyone. We will be updating this blog throughout this journey. CHEERS to 2012!

This is great news for the folks at the Buddha and South Florida beer geeks.  When the details on which beers will be brewed and distributed you will definitely hear it here.

A few months back Due South Brewing had announced that they had found a location after much searching to open their brewery in Boynton Beach, FL.  Today however due to what owner Mike Halker says was “…a situation with the previous property that we just couldn’t manage to work out.”  The brewery has found a new home a mere 200 yards away.

They are still in Boynton Beach but are actually more easily accessible sitting on High Ridge Road at Industrial Way instead of back towards the end of Industrial Way tucked in next to I-95.

This will probably set things back very slightly but the new location has everything they wanted plus it already has bathrooms, offices and a space for the tasting room that won’t need to be built out.  Additionally it has easy docking access that the previous location didn’t have.  Long story short, it’s better.

I was already excited as it was to have a brewery opening by some great people just a couple minutes from my house.  This move makes them even closer to me.  Selfish I know but it’s the small things right?

As the opening gets closer you will certainly hear something here from me.  Maybe I’ll even get Mike to come on United We Drink and talk about things as they get closer too.  And be sure to check out Due South’s website and blog.
