Name – Myrcenary
Country – United States
Type – American Double IPA

Pretty crazy last few days.  While Florida got spared getting hit by Hurrican Irene the Carolinas and a majority of the Northeast took the hit from it.  Man my family in Pennsylvania and New Jersey got the effects of the Virginia earthquake then parts of a hurricane.  They aren’t use to stuff like that.  Glad that everyone I know is okay and doing well.  So on with life and life is beer.

Today’s review is of Myrcenary from Odell Brewing Company out of Fort Collins, Colorado.  They are one of my favorite breweries that I can not readily get.  When visiting the brewery last September I was blown away by how good their beers were.  This bottle comes courtesy of Billy Broas of BillyBrew.com from a trade we recently made.  I couldn’t wait to pop this one open.

It pours a cloudy golden color into my Funky Buddha pint glass.  The small white head on top is gone quicker than I would like but oh well.

The nose is full of hops.  Grapefruit, orange and other citrus and tropical fruit just fill your nose.

The taste attacks you with fruit sweetness up front and then you start getting the bitterness from the hops.  A slight bit of maltiness can be picked up in there before it goes back to the hoppy fruit attack.  It’s medium in body and almost too easy to drink for a 9.3% ABV beer.

I would maybe call this a hop bomb as it’s not that balanced out.  But some people like that.  And I really enjoy one every so often as a break from balance.  How boring would it be if we just liked only the same things all the time.  Real freaking boring!

So once again another Odell beer down and another Odell be that is great in my opinion.  These folks never cease to amaze me by their beer making skills.  Anyone that can easily obtain Odell truly has a number of great treats right at your finger tips.  Thanks to Billy for this one in the trade.
