Name – Southern Tier Creme Brulee Stout
Country – United States
Type – American Imperial Stout
Appearance – Pours completely pitch black with a nice one finger wide tan head.
Smell – Straight up butterscotch!
Taste – The sweet, sweet butterscotch is the main focus here but you do pick up some dark and roasted malts and hints of chocolate. But mainly this tastes like a butterscotch Dum Dum pop.
The next seasonal stout from Southern Tier is a true desert stout. Normally I have no problems having a 22 oz bomber to myself on a night but the sweetness of this made me wish I had a friend to share it with. While it is very good that sweetness gets to you after a bit. One glass is more than enough for me in a night and I had two last night. Highly recommend it as a desert beer. Even more recommended that you drink it with friends.
Overall Grade – B

I shared this one with my mom. She loved it. Her comment: “I had no idea beer could be like this!”
August 11, 2010 at 8:39 amI haven’t tried mine yet, but I do enjoy butterscotch. Perhaps I will drink this with some ice cream.
Amie, I wish I’d have had this one when my mom was around a month or so ago. But she was a sport with the Maharaja!
August 11, 2010 at 8:45 amI really enjoyed this – had it on draft at BX a few weeks ago so didn’t have to worry about sharing the bottle.
As a side note, that “sharing” problem is easily solved by picking up one of those wine vacuum pumps they always have at the check out at TW. I use ours all the time, and it keeps the carbonation for at least 2 days 🙂 Then you can keep all the beer to yourself 😉

August 11, 2010 at 9:32 am@Amie – I had my dad smell it and he just said “That doesn’t smell like beer.”
@Rob – Then I think you will really enjoy this. Ice cream will probably be a good touch.
@Vanessa – I think I will have to get one of those. I’ve been meaning to for awhile but never did so.
@Casey – Enjoy!
August 11, 2010 at 10:21 amMIke, I actually hosted a beer pairing dinner a couple of months ago and paired it with my wife’s homemade dark chocolate/rasberry mousse. It was amazing. The sweetness of the mousse diminished the sweetness of the beer and really made the coffee notes pop.
