Legbiter
2 Jun
Name – Legbiter
Country – Northern Ireland
Type – English Pale Ale
Appearance – Poured a very clear red color with a big frothy white head.
Smell – Not a whole lot going on in the smell. You can pick up some faint scents of grain and sweet malts.
Taste – Sweet toffee like malts along with a breadiness. There is a bit of hops present that give it a slight bittering on the back.
I was actually contacted a bit ago by the brewery of this beer, Strangford Lough, who asked if I would try a couple of their beers. Not one to turn down free beer (and adhering to legal obligations of blogger disclosure) I graciously accepted. A few days later I had the bottles. This is the first one I tried of the two. It has good English style characteristics to it but could use a tiny bit more hops I feel in the taste. Other than that this is a good sessionable pale ale.
Overall Grade – B-

Strangford Lough is pretty smart. They are distributing their product to lots of us beer bloggers for review. Any company that isn’t taking advantage of social media in this way is missing out big time.
Thus far, between my own review and a couple others I’ve read, everyone is saying about the same thing. Decent beers.

I agree it is really good to go out and contact the bloggers. I did see your reviews on them a couple weeks ago. I think these might go over well in pub settings here in the states.
Yeah, I got my gift-pack too, and thought much the same thing as you did about this beer. Not bad at all.
Interesting though that the beer is actually brewed in the States with Irish-grown ingredients. I think its contract brewed in NY State actually – at least that’s where my bottles came from!
Me three…my review should be up tomorrow.
