Oak Aged Unearthly

Name – Oak Aged Unearthly
Country – United States
Type – American Double IPA

Appearance – Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a nice sized white head that sticks around for a bit.

Smell – Earthy hops along with a slight sweet bubble gum like taste.

Taste – Beautiful combination of all the earthy, citrusy and piney hops with a rich malt backing and sweet bubble gum/candi sugar flavor.  There is a definite oak presence.  It’s not in your face but you can pick it up and it adds something nice to this beer.

As you may know I was a big fan of the normal Unearthly and was looking so forward to the Oak Aged version of it.  I must say that I was not let down at all.  It is just like regular Unearthly but has that very nice chewy oak flavor in there that just adds something extra to an already complex and well rounded DIPA.  This one definitely shoots up to probably my top 3 favorite DIPAs of all time.

Overall Grade – A

I agree! This one is definitely one of my fav DIPA’s, but I don’t really get any oak from it. Fine by me it still tastes delicious. I haven’t been let down by Southern Tier yet.

Wow…I really need to find this, there is nothing like a great DIPA…my guess is they don’t distribute in Colorado…damn three tier system.
