Heavy Seas Holy Sheet
4 Mar
Name – Heavy Seas Holy Sheet
Country – United States
Type – Belgian Strong Dark Ale
Appearance – Pours a very deep red that is almost brown in some areas. Thin tan like head that disappears very quickly.
Smell – Sweet dark fruit, candi sugar and malts in the nose.
Taste – More sweet malts with dark fruit and candi sugar. A caramel flavor can be picked up as well as an ever so slight hoppiness to it. A very small amount of booziness as it warms up.
I got a chance to try some of this thanks to Chris at Fresh Beer when I was working the Best Damn Brew Review last Friday. I liked it so I decided to pick up a bottle. It isn’t as boozy tasting as most Belgians which made it easier to drink and it paired really well with the pork chops I made also.
Overall Grade – B+

I mostly like stuff from Heavy Seas, and this one sounds pretty good. My favorite (so far) is their Peg Leg porter, another solid B+. It won’t blow your mind, but if you buy six of them, they won’t linger in the fridge. I’ll have to try a Holy Sheet. Sounds like the wife will like it, too.
I’ve had Peg Leg as well and thought it was pretty good. I would definitely say to pick this one up though if you have the chance.
I almost picked this up alongside Black Ops. The guy who works at the store said he hates Heavy Seas, but loved this one. I would have, but I gotta watch how much I spend on beer. From your picture, it looks like they did beef up the carbonation a bit.
My St. Bernardus glass always seems to make a lot of extra bubbles. I’m thinking it’s the glass but I don’t know for sure.
Just picked one of these up on your recommendation. Can’t wait to crack it open. Hmmm…the boss IS away today…
