Fade to Black Volume 1

Name – Fade to Black Volume 1
Country – United States
Type – Export Stout

Appearance – Pours very jet black with a big light brown head.

Smell – The nose is primarily roasted malts, coffee and a bit of nuts.

Taste – The roasted malts are back and a coffee and chocolate taste mix together well.  Smooth creamy consistency make it a very easy drink.  Not heavy like you would think from a stout.

I had a couple of these on my birthday celebration last month at the Coffee District in Delray Beach and really enjoyed it there so I knew I had to pick it up for a proper review.  This is a brilliant beer that borders between a stout and a Belgian Strong Dark I think.  I just went with the classification that BA gave it.  But this series will be meant to be aged similar to Stone’s Vertical Epic series.  And if the next ones are anything like this then I am really looking forward to the series.  Also let’s hope that metal band that use to be really good and now is nothing but a shell of themselves doesn’t find offense to this name.

Overall Grade – A

    Can’t sue for the name of a song, no-one owns that…it’s only the melody…but knowing Metallica they might try…

    Having just seen a Metallica show, I’d say they are anything but a shell. They are still the real deal, and one of the best shows I have ever seen. You should listen to their new stuff off of Death Magnetic. It sounds a lot like And Justice For All. As for the beer, who makes it?

    @Joey – Yeah I wouldn’t doubt it either.

    @Beer Drinker – It could be the new breakfast of champions.

    @Don – It’s made by Left Hand. I listened to Death Magnetic when it came out and despite it did have some throw back moments it is still nothing compared to pre black album stuff.

    Oddly enough, I don’t see any Left Hand stuff out here. Would love to but I don’t.

    That’s so strange considering you are so much closer to them than I am.

    I’ll look for this one – sounds good and I see some Left Hand beers in my Whole Foods.

    I’ll agree with Mike – first two albums can’t be topped, but they do a good live show still. Hey Don, did you go with your cane?

    No cane at the show, but saw a couple guys jump off the balcony that will definitely need a cane for a while! One dude broke his leg, and the other looked like he could hardly walk! What do you expect when you jump like 15 feet onto concrete! Their show was amazing, but I must say Metallica fans are the whineiest fans in the nation. You don’t hear megadeth fans complaining from album to album. Just enjoy the music for what it is, the best damn heavy metal music on the planet!
