Brooklyn Brown Ale

7 Dec

Name – Brooklyn Brown Ale
Country – United States
Type – American Brown Ale

Appearance – Poured a deep brown color with ruby red tints around the edge of the glass.  Good sized tan head but it was gone rather quickly.

Smell – The nose isn’t that strong but malts and caramel can be picked up slightly.

Taste – Caramel, roasted malts, brown sugar and some nuts.

Decided to go with a pretty easy to find beer that I have actually never had before.  While it did lack in the smell area the taste was quite pleasant and I actually felt I made a good choice with it in the winter.  Just seemed to feel right.  There is nothing crazy going on, just a straight forward brown ale.  But that is just the way to make it.  I enjoyed it and I think it would be a good gateway beer for those just getting into craft beer.

Overall Grade – B-

I haven’t tried this one yet, but I agree that Brooklyn Brewery is a great “starter” brewery for folks just getting into craft beer. Everything they make is flavorful but not scary, and they have an independent vibe that is part of the definition of a craft brewer. Also, they’re easy to find, which makes them easy to recommend.
