Name – Marshal Zhukov’s Imperial Stout
Country – United States
Type – Russian Imperial Stout
Appearance – Poured an inky black with a bit bubbly brown head.
Smell – Sweet chocolate, some roasted malts and a bit of coffee. A little bit boozy as well.
Taste – The sweet chocolate taste is up front followed by a slight coffee tasted that turns roasted. A slight alcohol bite at the end that also has the chocolate taste come back for the finish.
This is my first review of a Cigar City brew. Based out of Tampa, Florida but not distributed down here in the south of the state I picked this up while in Orlando over the weekend. CCB has been quickly gaining a reputation in the craft brewing world for their brews and their barrel aged variants of them. Zhukov’s is a brilliantly well rounded RIS. All the flavors come together nicely and one does not over power the other. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it’s the best Russian Imperial Stout I’ve had to this point. There I said it. And with that statement I am going to give it the ever elusive grade.
Overall Grade – A+

Hmmm…I’d really be interested in trying this, seeing as I have a fierce Belgian Imperial Stout about to be bottled. How much did it cost?
November 12, 2009 at 8:30 amHonestly Nate I don’t remember. I was so excited to see things that I can’t get down my way I was just grabbing bottles and putting them into a box. But if you can get your hands on one I say DO IT!
November 12, 2009 at 9:03 amIt was probably around $15. Cigar City was supposed to be here next month but there was an issue getting bottles down here. Hopefully we see them early next year!
November 12, 2009 at 9:38 amThat’s not a bad price for a higher gravity, 750ml bottle.
November 12, 2009 at 9:49 amSounds like a great beer. The head is almost as dark as the beer!
November 12, 2009 at 10:11 amDamn Dude, A+. I gotta try some. Lets trade!
November 12, 2009 at 11:15 pmCigar City is turning out to be in high demand. Multiple people want me to trade this with them. I definitely will once they start getting regularly distributed down my way.
November 13, 2009 at 8:10 amI’m really wanting to try this. When I interviewed the Bruery on the site Patrick told me they were going to do a collaboration brew. Keep your eyes peeled for another one of these.
November 13, 2009 at 4:33 pmYeah I just read on CCB’s blog that their brewmaster headed out to Cali to work on that. http://blog.cigarcitybeer.com/2009/11/10/160-wayne-is-in-california-working-on-the-ccbbruery-collaboration.aspx
November 13, 2009 at 4:35 pmI’m excited for the brew they are doing together. I really want to get the collaboration and that Stout you drank.
November 16, 2009 at 11:28 pmSomeone brought a bottle of the Humidor Series of this one to a beer meeting last night. It was excellent. Adds a cigar like taste to it.
