Name – Mikkeller Cascade Single Hop IPA
Country – Denmark
Type – American IPA
Appearance – Poured a hazy copper color with a big white head that left a lot of lacing on the glass.
Smell – Citrus hops hit you right in the face. Grapefruit, orange, pineapple.
Taste – Pretty much all citrus hops like the smell. Not much in the way of a malt backing for those looking for one.
While I wouldn’t say it’s a hop bomb it is pretty much all hops but I’m not complaining. I really enjoyed this new one. We just recently got Mikkeller down here and figured I’d start with an IPA. I know some complain about the over use of cascade hops but I love them. I love the big grapefruit hop flavor they give. So rightfully I got a kick out of this one. Not as big as some other ones with the same type of hops but definitely enjoyable for someone that loves hops like I do.
Overall Grade – A

Haven’t had the cascade, had the nugget version (http://www.simplybeer.com/blog/2009/08/04/mikkeller-nugget-single-hop-ipa/) there is also the simcoe version. I like Mikkeller’s style. This is the first I’ve seen of a horizontal series on on style with one ingredient change.
September 23, 2009 at 9:19 amI’ll have to be on the look out for those. We don’t have a full line of their stuff yet. Slowly they are bringing them in. I had Weyerbacher’s Simcoe IPA and enjoyed it so if I can grab Mikkeller’s one I will.
September 23, 2009 at 10:11 amI really like these guys. Perhaps a little expensive…but, good. http://thankheavenforbeer.com/2009/07/11/simcoe-single-hop-ipa-by-mikkeller/
