Gonzo Imperial Porter
Name – Gonzo Imperial Porter
Country – United States
Type – Baltic Porter
Appearance – Poured a deep black color with a light brown head that stuck around for a little bit.
Smell – Roasted malts with coffee and sweet chocolate.
Taste – Roasted coffee taste up front with a nice sweet chocolate flavor to follow up. Slight bitter hoppiness to it.
We have some Flying Dog brews back in Florida but I have never been able to find this one. Sure enough out in Arizona I am able to finally try this one that I have heard ravings about. I must say that they are right. A really beautiful tasting Baltic Porter that has a great combination of roasted and sweet malts. It’s a must have.
Overall Grade – A

This is a personal fave. Fortunately it’s brewed just up the road so it’s easy to get.
Gotta watch out, though; it’ll kick you in the head if you’re not careful.

I have to say, there are few things that Flying God does well…this is one of them. I’ve never been a big fan of their stuff. Their customer service is great. I got a sampler pack and it was missing one other beers, so they sent me an entire sixer of the one I was missing. No cost to me!

For a change, this is easy to find in NJ. I almost got it last time but I got one of their wheat beers instead. This’ll go on my ‘will get’ list – sounds like something I’d really enjoy.

You might, Scott. It’s a robust version of Porter, so it’s more bitter than normal (85 IBU of hops). BTW I meant Flying Dog, not God.

I totally didn’t even notice that you wrote God until you mentioned it. I have to say that this was one of my favorite porters. I know they could probably get it in Florida since we get Flying Dog but I just don’t ever see Gonzo.

Like I said, it really is one of the few things they make that I care for.
