Name – Orval Trappist Ale
Country – Belgium
Type – Belgian Pale Ale
Appearance – Poured a clear reddish brown color with frothy white head.
Smell – Sweet fruit smells and just a general sugary type smell.
Taste – Sweet fruits with some slight floral hops in the background and finishes with a bit of an alcohol bite.
I’ve always heard rave reviews about Orval so I knew it was time to try it for once. While I do believe it is a very good beer, I don’t believe it is the best beer in the world (I have read that a few times from some writers).
Overall Grade – B+

It’s certainly note the best beer in the world…maybe not even the best Trappist. I love the earthy and woody tones in Orval. I think I would still have to give it an A.

July 7, 2009 at 2:32 pmHaving one for the first time right now. It is the ’06 vintage, just happened to find the LAST one at a local shop. I have heard so many people talk about this beer so I had to try it. A very good beer but doesn’t live up to the hype. The ticket in MI was $5.99. I have paid more for worse. I am glad to have tried it at least once.
October 6, 2010 at 8:33 pm@swmike1095 – Glad you got to finally give it a try. That price sounds a lot to me but maybe it was bumped a bit for the vintage of it. Next time I’m in the store I’m going to look at the actual price they have it for ans see if maybe my memory is just off on the price.
