Rogue Mocha Porter

Name – Rogue Mocha Porter
Country – United States
Type – American Porter

Appearance – Pours a dark black color with a nice tan head.

Smell – Roasted malts, chocolate and some slight coffee notes.  Really no hops that I can pick up.

Taste – A not over baring roasted malts flavor with notes of sweet chocolate.

I found this one quite enjoyable.  The roast flavors were not obscenely strong, which is good for me.  It is rather light as I expected something heavier out of it but that wasn’t a big problem.  The sweet and roasted flavors compliment each other very well.  This would be a nice desert beer with a slice of chocolate cake.

Overall Grade – B

It’s much better on tap vs. bottle. Rogue is really a hit and miss brewery for me. I liked their Shakespeare Stout.

I’ve never seen it on tap anywhere before.

I was really hit with Rogue for awhile but lately I have hit some snags like the Chipotle Ale and Soba Ale. Both were quite bad to me but I love Dead Guy, Double Dead Guy, St. Rogue Red and Brutal Bitter.

I had this at a place called Pazzo’s in Lexington, KY. I’ve had a good deal of their line-up but the Chipotle Ale is not an appealing prospect for me. I have a lot that I’d buy ahead of it, but if someone shared the cost of bottle I would consider it.

If by some insane reason you have someone that wants to get a bottle of it I would recommend talking them out of it rather than going half on it.

Sounds interesting. They make a Chocolate Stout too, have you tried that one?

I have not yet but I do see it when I’m at the store. I will have to try that sometime soon.
