Chocolate Indulgence Stout

Name – Chocolate Indulgence Stout
Country – United States
Type – Chocolate Stout

Appearance – Poured an opaque black color with a light brown head that left some nice lacing on the glass.

Smell – Milk chocolate smell with sweet malts.

Taste – Tastes of dark chocolate with a slight roasted flavor to it and nice malt backing.

This is a little light for a stout, not completely a full body on it but I like that in this one.  Beer Advocate calls it a Belgian Dark Strong and I really don’t get that classification.  I guess because of the body of it.  But there is little doubt to me that this is a stout and a really good one at that.

Overall Grade – A

This is a good beer. I had it a few years ago and sort of forgot about it. This winter I picked up an Ommegang gift pack this winter, which had this and other beers in it. Also had a free glass…sweet bonus. It is a good beer. I think that they call it a Belgian Strong because of it’s alcohol strength, Belgian brewing style, and the use of candy sugar. I think that this is one of those beers that can have multiple names because of this. There is no doubt to me that the beer is a Stout but it is also different than a normal Stout. The carbonation seemed a little more fine and it does have a fresh yeast added for bottle conditioning. I think Stout and Belgian Stong both work.

Thanks again for your great knowledge. I could see that alcohol sneaking up on you in this as it tastes so good.

Ommegang is one of those breweries that are consistently putting out good beer. I haven’t tried this one, but I think I will soon.

Ommegang is slowly becoming one of my favorite breweries. Everything I have tried by them has been solid.

It’s not surprising. I can see why Duvel wanted to be on the same team with them.
