Duvel
12 Apr
Name - Duvel
Country - Belgium
Type - Belgian Strong Pale Ale
Appearance - Pours a bright straw yellow color with a big, foamy white head that laces the glass amazingly.
Smell - A lot going on here with smells of apples, pears, yeast, grains and spices.
Taste - Sweet tastes of apples up front with some yeasty taste to it. Finishes crisp.
This beer is a beautiful site and taste. There is head on this from beginning to end and the flavor is just so full without being over baring. I need to get myself a goblet to have these style beers out of because they just deserve that type of treatment.
Overall Grade – A

What a classic. We reviewed this when we first started out and I think that it is an awesome beer. By the way, they come out with a Duvel set sometimes, if you can find it. It has something like 3 beers and a Duvel goblet. I love the story behind the name. One of the brewers involved had the alcohol sneak up on him (it really doesn’t seem like it’s 8.5% ABV) and said, “this is a Devil of a beer.” I love little tidbits like that…beer geeky, no?
I love the little tid bits of information that you have. Thank you again for your insight Mike.
You’re welcome…we are all learning from each other.
Duvel is a good beer, and I need to get me a goblet as well! Bob reviewed it on TBC and he of course has the official goblet if you’re interested in seeing a picture.
