Left Hand Rye Bock Lager

12 Mar

Name - Left Hand Rye Bock Lager
Country - United States
Type - Doppelbock

Appearance - Poured a very deep red color.  Borders on brown with a big tan head but left no lacing.

Smell - Smells of cherries and grains like bread were present.

Taste - Sweet malts are present with hints of cherry, toffee and caramel.  Add in notes of rye as well.

I gave this a try expecting a big rye taste but was a little disappointed that it wasn’t there.  That didn’t make this a bad beer just not totally what I was expecting from it.  I have to learn not to have expectations.  But it was a good enjoyable beer nonetheless.

Overall Grade – C+

Breweries sure are starting to put out more Ryes. I had a Founders Red Rye P.A the other day. The one Rye beer that I’ve loved but can never find is Bell’s Rye Stout…awesome!

Even though it is not technically a Rye the Lenny’s Bittersweet RIPA has great rye taste to it.
