Lagunitas IPA

Name – Lagunitas IPA
Country – United States
Type – IPA

Appearance – A rich gold to slightly amber color with a nice white head that stuck around a good amount.

Smell – A faint hoppy smell with a hint of pine.

Taste – I have to say that between the two bottles I had of it there were completely different tastes in each.  The first bottle had a slightly hoppy taste but not over powering at all and a very smooth and clean finish.  The second bottle however seem very strong with a taste of pine spices.  It had a bad after taste that kind of left me with a cringe.

I try to always taste two bottles of whatever I review just to make sure the taste is consistent between both.  This was the first time I can recall such a difference between bottles.  The first one overall was good and I enjoyed it.  The second just did not taste right to me.  Even compared with strong IPAs it just was a very bad taste that it left in my mouth.  This unfortunately will bring my score on it down and probably turn me off from wanting to have it again.

Overall Grade – D

I tried the Lagunitas IPA at Buffalo Wild Wings in Portland, OR a couple weeks ago, they had it on tap. I was very pleased with it. Maybe it’s got something to do with the bottles you had, maybe they weren’t stored properly. Its a great beer, I look forward to having another pitcher when I get to Portland again.

Thanks for your comment Ken. It is quite possible I had some bad bottles. It has happened before for me.
