Name – Spaten Oktoberfest
Country – Germany
Type – Marzen
Appearance – A deep amber color with a small white head that disappeared quickly.
Smell – A sweet malty smell that is very pleasant.
Taste – A nice blend of sweet malts. Minimal hops. Smooth aftertaste.
This was the first Spaten I ever had a few years ago but couldn’t remember which one it was until tonight. Upon the first smell I knew immediately it was the one. The beer is incredibly smooth and a nice sweet taste. Is by far the best Oktoberfest brew I have tried so far.
Overall Grade – A

I’ve been on a bit of an Oktoberfest trend myself, and this beer from Spaten is one of my Fall favorites as well.
September 24, 2008 at 3:18 pmWell, I had the Spaten this week, (October 13th-ish) and for some reason I didn’t like it as much this time around as I did in the past. Its a good beer no doubt, but it left me underwhelmed for some reason. I thought it rather bland.
October 18, 2008 at 12:12 amBEST EVER OKTOBERFEST BEER!! There is a catch though. I had this beer in Austria, just around the time of Oktoberfest and let me tell you, the version we get here in the states is NOTHING like what I had. The reason being, the beer we end up with is already old. I swear on my beer honor, this was the best beer I ever tasted when I was in Austria…fresh, crisp, perfect balance of hops and malt…and I got ripped off my ass!! I have yet to find it as fresh or rewarding back in the states which is so unfortunate.
August 27, 2009 at 8:54 pmI can imagine that to be true that it is better over there then here. I also think that tap is much better than bottle. There is little German place by me that has it on tap and I just love it.
